Photos by @michaelgeorge | Taken at midnight in the Grand Canyon, this scene is deceptive: During a 10-second exposure, a nearly full moon illuminated the canyon, making it appear to be daylight when in fact it was almost pitch-black. The only giveaway that it’s not dusk or dawn is the wide array of stars in the sky. Swipe for a slight crop with more detail.
Admiring the canyon in the moonlight is a meditative (and quite cold) experience. The only moment that broke through the silence was when a woman who saw the lights on the back of my camera from quite a distance loudly announced to her family that she thought I was a UFO.
