Who’s that handsome bird? It’s the Channel-billed Toucan (Ramphastos vitellinus), of course! Found in parts of northern and central South America, this species’ beak can grow up 5.5 in (13.9 cm) long. In fact, this bird has one of the largest beak-to-body ratios out of any bird in the world! This species’ beak serves as a thermoregulator: Toucans can control the amount of blood that flows to their bills, helping them warm up or cool down.
