ウォーク・ザ・ムーンさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ウォーク・ザ・ムーンInstagram)「“Anna Sun”, strangely, began as an attempt to recreate “Once In A Lifetime” by Talking Heads.  if you squint really hard, you may notice the repeating call-and-response choruses “what do you know” and “letting the days go by” vaguely mirror each other.  however, as it has always happened for me, whenever i start with some really specific source material, my song ends up taking me somewhere else entirely.  whatever David Byrne was feeling when he was writing Remain In Light, i don’t know, but when i was sat in the dark in my parent’s basement in June 2009 with a pen in my hand, my heart was in mourning.  i felt like i had tripped and fallen off a cliff, tumbling from the happiest time in my life into this strange lonely free-fall.  college was over, summertime was here, and the rest of my life seemed to be waiting, arms folded, foot tapping.  this particular afternoon, a month or so after graduation, my ex-girlfriend texted me hat she’d visited the empty campus and how strange it was.  that she and her friends set off fireworks in the South Quad, and that they… “rattled this ghost town”. i remember being shocked by that description and struck with a craving to be alone with my journal.  i went to the basement and left the lights off, so the only light was the evening sun peeking thru the shades, and I started writing: “screen falling off the door, door hanging off the hinges…” one of WALK THE MOON's last gigs during the schoolyear had taken place at a neighboring central-Ohio college, playing a party for the seniors at the town pub (these little Ohio college towns often had just one pub). the pub's entrance was a screen door that was barely attached to its frame, and that night when the class of 2009 raged their last rage, it felt like the building might crumble to rubble.  this and a thousand other college and childhood memories supercut through my head and began infusing themselves into song...
