There would be no birth complications. No pressuring one way or another. If you want a vaginal birth, you should feel supported in that. And if you want (and/or need) a C-section, you should feel supported in that. I think there’s so much pressure these days to have the perfect birth experience that when it doesn’t go that way, there’s so much shame and guilt which is largely being projected onto the MOTHERS. None of this is to dismiss the progress that needs to be made in the western birthing / medical world but just to say it’s time to stop the judgement when someone hopes for a birth experience different than the one you’d choose for yourself. The amount of negativity I’ve gotten when talking about needing a C-section (less than a week before I give birth at that…) has been shocking. The amount of people who think decisions like this aren’t made with careful consideration for both me and the baby… I understand why some don’t talk about it. And it’s unfortunate (so upsetting, actually) that some women are made to feel like their birth experience was less than, whether planned or not. We all hear the stories about c-sections being pushed on women, but we don’t often hear about vaginal births being pushed on women. But the amount of DMs I’ve received from women says “I WISH they would’ve just let me have a c-section” It happens on both sides and it shouldn’t. I’m having a planned C-section because it’s what I feel is right for ME and my medical team agrees. And I can’t wait 🥰 The process and the recovery won’t be easy, I know that. NO birth is easy.
