I remember being a kid and often saying how I wish I were a boy. But what I really meant deep down was that I wished society, family would treat me like a boy. But now I’m going to do me, act ‘like a girl’

子供の頃からずっと男の子になりたかったと言って来た。仲間も男性が多かった。お姫様ごっこの時は可愛い女の子を捕まえて男子に連れて行く役目だった。男子に憧れて、ボーイソプラノに惹かれて永遠のボーイソプラノを目指せるのではと思い高音を真似てみた。仲間に入れてもらいたかった。全てが後悔というわけではない。ただ、きっと本当は、男の子として見てもらいたい、認めてもらいたい、愛してもらいたい、それに必死だった

今はもっと自分自身を見つめたい、認めたい。サラとして、女子として、1人の人間として、生き物のとして、見てもらいたい、認めてもらいたい

まだそれを簡単にできない世の中
そう感じてる方はまだ多いですよね
一人じゃないよ

支え合って、自分と他人をもっと愛せるそんな世の中へ

My mates were mostly guys. I remember preschool days in the playground where pirates & princesses involved guys chasing after pretty girls. I was never a princess, and think I even opted to catch the girls and bring them back to our lair. All the films I adore have men as their protagonist, are often about the bonds between lads. Without that perhaps there wouldn’t have been that admiration and unattainable desire to be part of the boy sopranos’ choir. If I couldn’t get in, maybe I could at least mimic them and outrun them by being some sort of an everlasting-boy-soprano. I do not talk about these thoughts regrettably. But realise I tried so hard to fit in to be accepted, to be one of the boys, to have a voice

But now I need to do Sarah
To learn to recognize and love my inner reflection
As Sarah, as a girl, as a woman, as an individual, as a sentient being, may the world recognise me for that which I am

But I still fear embracing myself, and perhaps many of you do too. It is still a stifling world we find ourselves in. If we will forever be judged then more the reason to do you rather than do the you as imposed by society. It’s still a hard battle, but we are not alone. I am here. You are here. We are United. Hear us roar! 🐯
