I had the opportunity to photograph Perseverance in progress at JPL in the summer of 2019. The area reminded me of a giant sandbox, and I was awed by the innovation and creativity I witnessed. Perseverance began its journey to Mars on July 30, 2020. It cruised through space inside a spacecraft, and was periodically woken up by teams at JPL during the long flight.
