Bigger is beautiful but it isn’t always better. Usually I’ve found that when a company is small, they are producing in a way that is better for the planet as well. Small means handmade, it means supporting local communities, it means connecting with like minded people, it means less materials used and less waste, and it doesn’t always mean something tangible. For example my Valentine’s Day today will be spent helping at a local farm, because small farmers need our support too. Don’t get me wrong I am pro any holiday (even consumer driven) that encourages love and connection, and today can be used as a beautiful day for exactly that, but let’s not get lost in plastics and filler gifts. Let’s try and purchase with meaning OR not purchase at all. If gifts are an option, then consider where and how it’s made. Use your platform to spread LOVE for the earth by sharing posts from activists in the sustainable space 🌎🌷 Get outside, go for a hike, support a local florist (and tell them at checkout you don’t need your flowers wrapped in plastic) - make a batch of cookies together, buy a book from a writer you love, take an online art class, donate food at a shelter, write love notes for our elderly who are now at living facilities, get your hands in the soil with a local farm. Giving feels good and we can give with our time and our energy if we can’t give with our wallets. And HUG the people you love if you can! This year we’ve all been missing hugs, so if you can, safely enjoy a hug with friends and family because we could all use one!
