At the time, I was in an Engineering PhD program and wasn’t even in the market for a job. I was actually at a recruiting event trying to promote my own program when an Agency recruiter came up to my booth and asked if I had ever considered a job with CIA. . I had never prepared for anything in the IC as I was looking for something a bit more research-oriented. Lab work was all I had ever really known, and it’s what I thought I might stick with. But after meeting with the recruiter and doing a bit of research, I realized that CIA might actually be a better fit for my interests and my background.  . As a 20-something at the time, I was shocked at the responsibility and the access I was given. Even as a grad fellow, I was expected to produce quality work, work that could make its way to the Oval Office. I also had the opportunity to explore CIA and learn more about the various offices that keep the Agency running. They really want you to develop a broad understanding of the mission, so that you can pick the office that best matches your goals and interests.  .
