I remember very clearly in my first month at #CIA, coming to the realization that I was going to have to work very hard just to be average. Like so many of our recruits, I had excelled academically, so when I showed up I was, frankly, kind of cocky. Those first few weeks were humbling, to say the least. I was – and still am – in awe of the talent and skills of my teammates and fellow CIA officers. They are some of the smartest, most interesting people I’ve ever met and I am incredibly proud to be included among their ranks. . The way I see it, a career with CIA not only gives you a front seat to observe history as it unfolds, but it gives you the opportunity to put your hand on the wheel and, in a small but important way, inform the outcome on issues that you care about. For our generation, counterterrorism – preventing another 9/11 and keeping America safe— was the top issue to work on. There is no better place in the world to chase that mission. . It’s been fun, interesting, fulfilling, and never an opportunity I could have imagined when I was in grad school, deep in debt, living in a $300/month apartment. . I’m grateful to this place for the doors it’s opened to me, not just professionally but personally. How many people can say they got their dream girl and their dream career in a package deal?
