Photos by @renaeffendiphoto / Imran Guliyev (center) was a school principal in his native town of Gasimli in Agdam Province of Azerbaijan when he and his family were forced to flee during the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh, which unravelled in the 90s. Internally displaced for nearly three decades now, the Guliyev family finally had a chance to visit their village last year after their province and other occupied lands were reclaimed by Azerbaijan. The most recent flareup of this protracted conflict lasted 44 days in 2020 and ended with a peace deal brokered by Russia on November 10. The Guliyev family found their town in ruins. Just a single wall was left standing amidst the rubble of what was once their ancestral home. Everything of value was ferried away, to be sold or repurposed, during the occupation. It will take another decade or more before they'll be able to inhabit these lands again. #war #conflict #karabakh #armenia #azerbaijan
