While living in the town of Coatepec in the southeastern state of Veracruz, I came across a procession. Among the parishioners and a school band danced a group of colorful masked clowns. I felt very interested in them, and from that moment on I started a project for which, among other things, I made portraits of them with their costumes in small "street studios," where I mounted the same fabrics that they use to create their suits as backgrounds.
