Today’s Monday challenge is a MOBILITY challenge.

The goal for the challenge today is to see if we can move our hips all the way down to touch your heels without a butt wink. We should, of course, never strive to hyperextend the low back, but having the body awareness and flexibility to reach this bottom position without getting part of the range from the low back is a great indicator of sound and healthy mechanics of the hips.

The most important part of fitness is about feeling good and moving well. Feeling good and moving well will make everything else that we live for more enjoyable.

so the challenge today is to see if you’re able to go through this range, if you are, let’s accumulate 10 to 30 perfect repetitions, and remember that slow and controlled movement is the goal here. If you’re not able to perform the above test we are going to try to accumulate the same number so 10 to 30 repetitions with a shortened range of motion that will allow you to keep the bottle on your low back teaching your low back and hips to move independent of each other.

No matter our age or physical condition we should always strive to move the way our bodies are intended to move. If movement of specific joints/muscles are limited our bodies will find a way to get the work done, but often compensation will lead to excessive wear and tear on certain parts of the body which can lead to discomfort and in worst case, injury when we add load or intensity.

Move well, move with intent and purpose.
