DAILY BOWIE THING – Day 73

“It’s the freakiest show...”

It may be hard to imagine the press hysteria that David Bowie’s live shows created during 1973 in the UK. But luckily, we still have the evidence.

The double page feature by Bob Hart titled ‘THE BOWIE FREAK OUT’ (top left in our montage), featured the image of a scantily clad Bowie onstage in Scotland taken by Roger Bamber. It was published in The Sun a couple of days after four shows in Scotland: Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

It seems the Scots were always very appreciative of the London boy, as reflected in Hart’s article. Here’s the intro…

THE DAVID BOWIE show was about to reach its climax.

As the music hits boiling point, the flame headed star peeled off his patterned silk playsuit and stood rocking in gleaming red briefs.

Fans fought to reach the stage. Seats were ripped out and limbs snapped.

At the back of the hall a young couple happily made love.

This was Glasgow. Just a few nights ago. David Bowie, the new god of pop ‘n’ rock, was on the road with the freakiest show in Britain today.

Backstage Bowie said: “They really are animals here. And I love them.”

By this time, the fans were almost as much of a spectacle as what was going on onstage. Do you know any of those featured in these articles?
