Ashi-no-shiri Dosojin
(Nagano City)

The Ashi-no-Shiri Dosojin drew the world’s attention when it appeared during the opening ceremony of the 1998 Winter Olympic Games.

They have unique faces and are made with the shimenawa ropes from New Year’s decorations.

They are enshrined in the mountains and serve many purposes, such as preventing bad spirits from entering villages, promoting villagers’ health and well-being, and praying for a bumper crop.

山奥で静かに祀られています✨
