Photo by @hannahreyesmorales / Over the last year, we’ve been exploring what might be the very first love songs that we hear: lullabies. We wanted to know what bedtime looked and sounded like for families around the world.
Six-year-old Xavier hugs his doll with toy hearing implants in his home in Massachusetts. Xavier is deaf and uses cochlear implants to help him hear. At night, he and his mom Jessica sing —and sign—lullabies together before going to bed. After singing, Jessica, says “I love you” out loud every night in case the implants fail. “I make sure to tell him in case it is the last thing he hears,” she says.
Read more about lullabies (and listen to Xavier and Jessica’s song) in the December issue of Nat Geo. Follow me @hannahreyesmorales as we journey exploring nighttime rituals around the world. #livinglullabies #Mongolia @insidenatgeo @timstrust
