She’s a city girl, they say.
Camping was a activity others did. It was reserved for the plucky and free and open hearted. Those people smelt like freedom and hope.
Comforts keep me warm. They protect me from the incessant chatter in my mind and make me feel safe. Or so I thought. But I wasn’t ever safe. Not now. Not then.
2020 has stripped us and moved us from our North Star. We are scattered and confused and clumsy. We breathe deeply but the air just gets stuck. We feel stuck.
As we near the years end we start to open. Our hearts have been through war. But we must rebuild. We must. For there’s no other way.
We must be like the campers.
Hope...
Nature....
Humanity...
Love....
Us?
Why are we here?
What is our legacy?
Who will we be remembered by?
How did we love?
Was it enough?
What happens next, after this life?
When the world keeps turning, was it worth it?
The darkness comes. As it always does. And we will sit. And itch. And stir.
But just when we think we can’t take it anymore, the sky will remind us that we will be okay.
And then, as it always does, the sun will reappear.
