I was living in Covent Garden when Prince Charles and Princess Diana got married, back in 1981. The streets were full of celebration. Everyone wanted to see the procession of carriages and cars taking the Royal Family from Buckingham Palace to St. Paul’s Cathedral, where the ceremony took place. People had been waiting for hours, with flags, signs and incredible enthusiasm, and I had to use all my powers of persuasion to get some space at the top of a phone box, from where I shot this image. Surprisingly, it looks like The Queen Mother was looking my way at the exact moment of the shot. My very first encounter with royal photography.

Vivía en Covent Garden cuando el Príncipe Carlos y la Princesa Diana se casaron, allá por 1981. Las calles estaban llenas de celebración. Todos querían ver la procesión de carruajes y coches que llevaban a la Familia Real desde el Palacio de Buckingham hasta la Catedral de St. Paul, donde se iba a realizar la ceremonia. La gente había estado esperando durante horas, con banderas, carteles y un entusiasmo increíble, y tuve que usar todo mi poder de convencimiento para que me dejaran un espacio en el techo de una cabina telefónica, desde donde tomé esta imagen. Sorprendentemente, parece que la Reina Madre me estaba mirando en el momento exacto de la foto. Mi primer encuentro con la fotografía Real.
