The largest Italian centers of armor production were Milan and Brescia in Lombardy—their styles notably different from this one—so this is a rare example of a style of armor made in Tuscany in the early 17th century. ⁣ ⁣ Just like artists working in other media, armorers active in a same area often created works that had a common and distinctive flair. In this case, the bands of vertical, brightly polished channels on the surface of this armor distinguish it as made in Florence. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ This armor joins the @metarmsandarmor collection thanks to a landmark gift of 91 objects, notable for their rarity, quality, illustrious origins, and variety.
