Created the same year its honorary subject #MalcolmX was assassinated, Whitten's sculpture evokes an arm stretching from shoulder to hand, coiled with potential energy and tensed with anticipation. In a 2017 interview the artist said, "It's an instrument of time built in three sections...so to connect the past to the present."
