As I was sketching and playing with ideas, I thought that giving it double sets of eyes and mouth created a feeling of vertigo. She begins to fall after engaging with the creature, so this fit into that dream logic. When I arrived in Kiev, the team had a 3D-printed version, made from my design, waiting for me. The overall look of the mask was fine but it was painted a dark glossy brown, similar to a statue. It had strayed too far from that ghostly look of a Noh mask. Also, the doubling of the features didn’t read anymore. So, I asked if they could print another mask and leave it blank. I then painted the mask myself and got back to the way I had envisioned it. Primarily, I used watered down acrylic paints. However, I found that the actual contour powder that I used for twigs’s make-up worked the best for shading on the mask.
