Trends in Korea move faster compared to the rest of the world – in terms of production, ingredients, packaging, and marketing – and, often, even the popularity of influencers dies out quicker. It isn’t just about the meticulously followed “routine” (up to ten steps and products) that has made K-beauty famous throughout the world. There’s rapper @ジェニー who used her Instagram to celebrate the sourbet-coloured eyeshadow trend when launching her Icecream video; then there’s @Korea_grandma on YouTube who does tutorials where she spreads yogurt and fruit on her face in a subtly humorous way, along with rave-inspired nail artist @nail_unistella, one of the most famous names in her industry, who is suing a large company for having copied her ideas. There are also those who are going against the grain: Pony, a beauty influencer with 7 million followers, recently made her @ポニー a profile private.
