Alter 3, created by Shibuya himself, autonomously conducted the Japanese Philharmonic Düsseldorf in a live opera, 'Scary Beauty’ last January. The humanoid bot moved at its own accord with the music, impressively setting the dynamics and tempo of the human orchestra. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Alter 3 was advanced from a previous version, Alter 2, which featured in the Japan premiere of Scary Beauty in July 2018 at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Odaiba, #Tokyo. The android was developed to investigate the potentials of communication between robots and human beings. Whilst Shibuya believes humans and robots can learn to collaborate to create art, this is widely debated.
