From the wall of my exhibition - these three images together represent the defense of the Japanese archipelago. Firstly, with the Daiba fort islands in Tokyo Bay, constructed in haste after the American gunships arrived in the 1850s. Next are the ruins of the suicide torpedo base in Nagasaki Prefecture from World War II. Finally is a concrete tetrapod, thousands of which are scattered across coasts and river banks in an effort to protect from erosion.
