The blaze was over 51,000 acres and 2% contained. Above thermal belts, the fire burned actively much of the night and was already spotting past containment lines as of writing. The fire started during a north wind event, and another Red Flag Warning (RFW) starts in 90 minutes for a 31-hour period. I embedded last night with a strike team near Angwin cutting dozer line and protecting homes. The fire behavior was extremely active. I’m here in Sonoma and Napa counties on assignment covering the Glass Fire impacting wine country and the wine industry itself. This hits close to home as friends yet again are being evacuated and losing structures and businesses for the 3rd time in 4 years, in some cases. The fall harvest is also being adversely affected. Driving past wineries I’ve visited as a tourist and knowing they are gone, I have trouble holding back tears. This all feels incredibly personal. The fire also impacts the laborers who work in the fields and pick the grapes. With fire closures for safety and a new agricultural permit access system, implementation mid-fire siege is an ongoing issue. Stay safe out there, have an evacuation plan ready, and follow local emergency alerts. Follow evacuation orders, and don’t hesitate to leave if you feel uncomfortable.」10月2日 5時59分 - natgeointhefield
