But sometimes my heart bursts with a mixed feeling of deep love, gratitude, and lingering grief. My father was the gentlest of souls - with a quiet sense of humor, a generous heart, a childlike enthusiasm for life, and a deep love and devotion to his family. Even later in his life when he was suffering from dementia, his humor remained in tact. I’d say “Who am I?” — he’d laugh and shrug. He’d fool me into thinking he didn’t know. Then he’d say, “My baby girl, Lesley!” and laugh. He didn’t remember most things - but he always remembered me, thankfully. He’d say, “Gee, you’re a tall drink of water!”, referring to my height and it always made me laugh. Even though he became more like a child and I was the parent, I valued those days so much and embraced them. Everything was precious - playing cards, plucking his unibrow :), clipping his nails, taking walks together, dancing to his favorite music. I passed by his burial flag today - given to him for his service in the Korean War - and felt a rush of love and his presence all around me. I feel it whenever I pass one his paintings as well. You’re always around me, Pop. Watching over me. I love you. 💕 💫 🌈 🦋」8月30日 6時19分 - mslesleyfera
