Photo by @estherhorvath Sally Hovelsø prepares a meal for dogs in Ny-Alesund, Svalbard, in the Norwegian Arctic. Certain parts around Ny-Alesund, where scientific measurements are carried out, can be reached only on foot, skis, or dog sleds.
Besides dog sledding, having dogs as company is important, especially during the dark winter months and in a place where people are few. There are only about 35 inhabitants of Ny-Alesund along with a few visiting scientists and guests. Please follow @estherhorvath for more science stories.
