Video by @bertiegregory A male dugong heads up to the surface to breathe while finishing off a mouthful of seagrass. Although he’s capable of holding his breath for much longer, his feeding dives would usually last about six minutes. At the surface, he’d take three or four big breaths before coming back down to the seagrass. Like a cow, this dugong needs to eat a huge amount of grass to sustain his size. The small yellow fish are juvenile golden trevally. They hang out with dugongs to snatch any invertebrates spooked up by the disturbance. Follow @bertiegregory for more wildlife adventures!
