In all kindness to my son, Richard, when he moved in with me a million days ago on March 20th (Berklee College of Music went COVID remote learning that day), he brought with him a small bottle of Dawn brand dish soap from his Boston apartment. I don’t use plastic containers or non-natural cleaners...every day is Earth Day in this old house. To not waste, Richard asked if he could use a glass dispenser so we can finish this unpleasant cleaner instead of pouring it down the drain. Today the sun shined on a decent pile of dishes and the last of the hazelnut butter glass containers from Turkey, a finished jar of grape jelly from Georgia (breakfast was a hazelnut and jelly sandwich), all needing a proper washing. And there, in all this cleaning chaos the eye-candy blue unpleasantness made me queazy...who decided that neon blue is a color anybody would want to put on things we use to eat food from?! Overly interested in this blueness, these days we have a lot of time for distractions...nothing in the natural world is this color. We had already recycled the plastic bottle weeks ago, and this evening I washed the dishes with our usual Non-Tox Life dish soap bar.
