When he left yesterday, I kept the bed as it was, like I always do as if he’s still here. The last person who lived this bedroom had a large object hanging on the wall. A perfect line of four holes seems it was heavy. When getting to my life in the basement, I'll find something to cover these gashes, maybe from the box of African and Indonesian masks, until deciding what colors to paint this room, filling the holes on this wall of scars. The day before he returns, I pull back the sheet and comforter, replacing the propped up pillow he uses to sit while reading and open the broken blind. One night I'll feel what it's like to sleep in his room overlooking a rolling hill of trees to the Housatonic River. Till then, it's Kon's room.
