片山正通さんのインスタグラム写真 - (片山正通Instagram)「・ Bruce Springsteen ／ 6thアルバム “ Nebraska ” ( 1982年 )。当時高校1年生(15歳／岡山)だった僕は、このアルバムにガッカリした事を覚えている。何故ならば《ロックンロールの未来》と称されたロッカーの最新アルバムとしては、あまりにも弱々しく覇気がなかったからである。歌詞を読んでさらにびっくり、実際にあった連続殺人事件をメタファーとして歌った曲を始め、アメリカ社会の闇そして閉塞感や挫折を扱った曲のオンパレード。遡る1975年にThe E Street Band を従えたブルースは、リード曲 “ Born to Run ” で「オレ達は走るために生まれてきたのさ」と歌い上げていたはずなのに・・・その変貌ぶりに驚いたのだ。アメリカを背負った男 “ブルース・スプリングスティーン ” が何故？随分後の2016年に彼は自伝の中で、長い間鬱に悩ませられていた事を告白する。僕は愕然とした。今このアルバムを聴くと、隠さず弱さを見せてくる一人の男が現れる。コントロール不可であった精神の中で、アメリカ社会の闇とたった一人で戦っていたのか？！時間が経たないと理解出来ないことが沢山ある・・・僕にとって彼は〈ロックンロールの伝説〉そして今でも〈ロックンロールに未来〉なのだ！ Bruce Springsteen / 6th Album “Nebraska” (1982). I remember I was disappointed with this album when I was a first-year high school student (15 years old living in Okayama). Because it was too weak and unambitious for a new album of the rocker named “The Future of Rock and Roll.” More surprisingly, the lyrics of the listed pieces were all about American society’s darkness, stagnation, and collapse starting with a song as a metaphor for the actual serial murders. I was surprised to see him changed. He used to sing like “we were born to run” in the lead song “Born to Run.” “Bruce Springsteen” had been a man of America. Why changed? Later in 2016, he confessed he had long been suffering from depression in his autobiography. That was shocking. As I listen to this album now, a man appears with his weakness unveiled. I wonder if he was fighting against American society’s darkness alone while he couldn’t control his mind himself back then. There are many things that you cannot understand until time passes...
