National Geographic Travelさんのインスタグラム写真 - (National Geographic TravelInstagram)「Photos by @hellokrisdavidson | Mardi Gras is one of America’s most magnificent displays of history, culture, community, and creativity. In New Orleans, Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday in French) is more of a season than a single-day holiday, beginning officially on the Christian Epiphany (Three Kings Day). But as soon as New Year decorations come down in the Big Easy, the traditional Mardi Gras colors of purple, green, and gold crop up across the city, and the increasingly fevered spirit of Mardi Gras takes hold, breaking at last on Ash Wednesday, which is today. Layered in deep and increasingly overlapping traditions, the citywide festival is largely structured around the krewes, member-driven organizations that put on parades and other events. Many are close to 150 years old (like Zulu and Rex, both pictured here) and have deep commitments to community service. Other groups, like the Rolling Elvi (that’s plural for Elvis, and they are all on scooters), are younger organizations infusing much welcome comedic relief. Mardi Gras in New Orleans is a citywide experience like no other, a beautiful cross-pollination of culture and tradition (and copious amounts of glitter). #MardiGras #AshWednesday」2月27日 0時58分 - natgeotravel
