It meant a farewell as father and son as well as a farewell as Kabuki actor and I clearly remember both. Not a single thing I was able to do in a form of filial piety to my father, is what I am feeling. A real father’s death meant a sorrow which is quite indescribable with words. And a farewell as Kabuki actor this too was a shock... . Living in the world of Kabuki without a backing up is not so easy. People who are not very familiar with Kabuki often think that if you are born into a fine family you get to play a good role or you will be treated well, but that’s not true. At first you are treated well and get to play good roles, but it often turns out that doesn’t stay so forever. Therefore I strongly feel that until now I have been able to somehow continue acting as Kabuki actor and this year I am able to succeed the most valued hereditary name in the world of Kabuki is simply the result of the love and Kabuki that my father has left me. These thoughts came to me as I’m heading to Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. * 2月3日の夜に父はこの世から旅立ちました。親子としての別れと歌舞伎俳優としての別れがありどちらもハッキリ覚えています。何一つ親孝行らしい事出来なかった、そう感じています。実の父の死は言葉に表すことは容易ではないかなしさがありました。そして歌舞伎俳優としての別れこれもこたえました、、後ろ盾なく歌舞伎の世界で生きていく事は容易ではないです。あまり歌舞伎知らない方は良い家に生まれたから良い役がつくとか恵まれていると思われがちですが、そんな事ないんです。それは最初は恵まれ良い役がつきますが、ずっとそういうわけでもない事も多々あります。そして現在までなんとか歌舞伎俳優やれてきているのも今年歌舞伎界の中で最も重い名跡を襲名出来る事もひとえに父が私に残してくれた、愛と歌舞伎があるからだと確信しています。そんな事感じながら成田山新勝寺へ向かいました。 #市川海老蔵 #海老蔵 #成田屋 #歌舞伎 #ABKAI #ABMORI #ebizoichikawa #ebizo #kabuki #thunderparty #theater #theaterarts #actor #japan #classic」2月3日 10時59分
