It was a personally challenging time in my life — I felt so lost when I arrived in Sydney, but by the time I boarded that plane back to the US a year later, I truly felt I had found myself again. And so much of that is because of the strength, depth, authenticity and the infinite kindness of the community there. There are so many memories for me, that when I take in their entirety, I understand they make up critical pieces of my heart. As I look at the current devastation, this beautiful land on fire ... my heart literally breaks. This isn’t about somewhere far away. This is about empathy — it’s about all of us stepping up — as a global community and showing the world what we are really made of.
