Photo by @williamodaniels | In 2013 I photographed Nikolaï Ivanovitch Koknaev, 78, who had gout and was treating it by wrapping his feet in cabbage leaves. Like many inhabitants in the region, he came in the 1980s from western U.S.S.R. to work on the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) train line, which crosses Siberia and the Russian Far East. To reach the hospital, he can only take the train, which stops every other day in his little village. Follow me on @williamodaniels for more human stories around the world.
