Someone asked recently, after I posted an old pic of Mazzy and Harlow with their American Girl dolls, if they still play with them now. The truth is, they play with them way more now than they did then. Mazzy’s love of American Girl Dolls was rekindled this summer, which sparked a renewed interest from Harlow and now that’s the main thing they play with together. In fact, yesterday, our entire bathroom was taken over by American Girl dolls and accessories because they said they ran out of space in their room. When I put together my holiday gift guide, I included both Mazzy’s wish list from last year and this year. I realized her picks this year are more childlike than last year. She made a comment to me the other day that she was like a 4yo because she still likes toys. I told her that I love that about her. And that most big kids still love toys, whether they admit it or not. Mazzy and Harlow have a babysitter who is 15. I said, “Why do you think she is so much fun to play with? Because she secretly still loves toys too!” Last year for Hanukkah and Christmas, I made the mistake of getting all big kid gifts for Mazzy and she ended up being disappointed on Christmas morning when she had nothing simple to rip open and play with.
