We collaborated with craftsmen from Tatsumura Koho in Kyoto to create a traditional Noh kimono for the play “Okina” - woven from glowing silk produced by genetically modified silkworms containing green fluorescent protein. A Noh stage has been erected in the show, allowing the audience to see the work as if at the moment the “Waki (a player from reality)” encounters the “Shite” (a player from the divine world)” during a Noh performance. Noh performances are often stories that straddle the past, present, the reality and the world of the divine.
