Training can be super vulnerable. You’re putting all of yourself into these moments of maximum effort over and over and sometimes you’re loud or it’s ugly, and often you’re failing. Insecurities arise on bad days, or while attending to glaring weaknesses. You get angry or sad and self-doubt doesn’t just creep in, but surges, as if the levees you’ve built to keep it out are made of tissue paper.

This is a continuous battle for me; I’m my own worst enemy, constantly fighting against thoughts of not being enough. On good days I’m unbreakably confident, but on bad days I’m undramatically inconsolable, comparing myself to others or past me’s even though I know it’s detrimental, and that everyone excels at their own personal style.

This mental roller coaster is something I’m actively working on, but late night solo sessions in an empty warehouse with blaring music are my masochistic escape for now.
