As the sky was erupting over New Presque Isle Lighthouse I spotted a lone kayaker returning to shore with his dog on the bow, out enjoying a calm evening paddle. I dropped everything and wadded out into the icy water with camera in-hand, made a quick friend and cracked off as many photos as I could while the light glowed warm. His name was John and his furry friend was Tucker, a builder who was doing some local construction and camping along the shores of Lake Huron. It was a magical scene and just one more reason I love my job, it’s full of micro encounters like this, in places I would most likely never would have gotten to experience without this addiction to photography I hold so dear.
