Smoke is visible from space as wildfires burn in the Brazilian states of Amazonas, Mato Grosso, and Rondônia. Nearly 73,000 fires have been reported throughout the Amazon basin this year, a record number that has caused international concern for the future of the world's largest and most biodiverse tract of rainforest. jxrcxr Just so everyone knows, the Amazon rainforest goes ablaze every few years, and this naturally-occuring fire isn't even as bad as past ones we have on record; it is a NATURAL PROCESS. At the point where the rainforest becomes cluttered with dead/dried-out plant life--is prime time when nature resets the circle of life with a forest fire, returning essential nutrients needed for regrowth back into the soil. Don't let them politicize this!!

leleontheway If you do one thing to help the Amazon, reduce your meat and dairy consumption. Over 90% of Amazon deforestation is done to raise cattle for the global meat and dairy industry. If you despair at the Amazon fires and there is meat on your plate, make the connection. It is our choices as consumers that is fueling the fires.
