On y voit les apôtres assistant stupéfaits à l'ascension de la Vierge, hors de son tombeau, entraînée par une nuée d'anges. - 👀 Piazzetta a divisé sa toile en deux registres. Dans le premier tiers inférieur, autour de la tombe, les apôtres vieillissants sont saisis dans des postures extatiques, parfois grandiloquentes. Les deux tiers supérieurs sont tout entiers consacrés à la nuée céleste et à l'envolée de la Vierge, vue dans un raccourci saisissant. Le cadrage en contre-plongée accentue l'effet dynamique ascensionnel : le groupe des apôtres semble comme écrasé par le tourbillon céleste. - - - - 🌍 The Louvre is open today, Thursday 15th of August, for the Assumption! - ✍️ This painting, made by the Venetian artist Giambattista Piazetta (1682 - 1754), records the episode of the Assumption of the Virgin. We can see the apostles watching in amazement as the Virgin ascends into the sky from her tomb, accompanied by a host of angels. - 👀 Piazzetta divided his painting into two registers. In the lower third of the canvas, the aged apostles strike postures that are ecstatic, even grandiloquent. The upper two-thirds are entirely devoted to the celestial host and the upward flight of the Virgin, strikingly foreshortened.
