I tell you what, with the mood I'm in right now, I don't think there's anything else that could lift my spirits as much as this comforting treat. I'd tell you about it but I think I just need to step away from it for the time being. It's really got me thinking - we don't give enough credit to people for just surviving, you know? It's an overlooked achievement that deserves more appraisal in my eyes. I've spent a lot of time online talking to a lot of different people, and it seems like in some way we're all survivors of something. I've talked to people who have survived unimaginable abuses, rejection from their family and from society, who've overcome potentially fatal illnesses both mental and physical; cancers and depressions, heart defects and loneliness - who have waded in the dark pool of pure and utter despair with no ledge to pull themselves up from in sight. Some people have fled from war and violence, have kicked addictions, dodged freak accidents, have almost gone mad as their souls are stripped naked and beaten raw to the deathly wims of heartbreak. I know people who have survived the worst of the world and the worst of themselves, and yet, we never really say, "Well done for still being here. You survived. You are surviving. It's not easy, but you're doing it." To those of the people who don't think they can make it, I guess all we can say is, "Keep on trying if you can, and if you can't, well done for giving it your best. You've been loved, and your love shall survive." I don't know, I just thought I'd pass that on. So to you, my friend, I say, "Well done, friend. I'm sure life hasn't always been easy, but you've pulled yours off in grace and style." And you know what? I think I have too, right Nigey? Wishing you the blessing of further perseverance and I hope you're having a lovely day!

Yes I remember that too! It was amazing and I have it scribbled on a piece of paper somewhere. It has no milk, uses water and is a quite runny mixture but gives a very moist fine texture and beautiful. I’ve cooked it a number of times over the years

This reminds me of your Guinness cake. Dying to make your ginger cake with lemon icing again (used to make it in London all the time) but can’t get treacle or Golden Syrup here in Italy 🇮🇹. Any suggestions for good replacement ingredients?

I used to bake a marvelous cake which used to be on your website but I cannot find it anymore — it was over 10 years ago - Nigella’s Passion Cake - is the recipe still available @nigellalawson ?
