ビアンカ・ローソンさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ビアンカ・ローソンInstagram)「If one’s lucky, sometimes you have one of those rare experiences that you can feel rearranging every cell of your being, totally transforming the future path of your life and who you believed yourself to be up until that moment. I recently had such an experience. It expanded my heart, my mind, my consciousness.. my soul. I was gifted with an opportunity to travel with @careorg on a ‘care journey’ to Zambia. There’s a pilot program there called SOAR (strengthening opportunities for adolescent resilience) that was funded by this extraordinary couple, Mary Jan and Paul Bancroft. I travelled with them in a group of about 10, not counting the @care_zambia team- who I truly can’t praise highly enough. They were returning less than a year after the program began to see its progress. I have no idea how so much was accomplished in less than a year. These children and mothers were truly thriving. The focus is on early childhood education and empowering mothers. I went to the schools and sat in the classes and witnessed children that had learned to read and write in less than a month in their native language and english. These children who had fallen out of, or never been in the system due to poverty, sexual violence, child marriage, stunting, orphaned, forced sex work- a myriad of traumatic reasons.. were so loving, full of spirit, kind, present, smart, so respectful. A joy. Some walk up to 10 miles a day, risking their lives to attend school. The teachers were some of the best I’ve ever seen- truly inspiring light workers. The whole program is incredibly comprehensive and quite elegant actually. I wish I had room to say more, but I’ll end with this.. I asked Mary Jan what her mission was. She replied “sharing my love through service.” That was the energetic feeling from every single person that I encountered on this trip. The locals, the children, the mothers, the teachers, the principals, the education officers and commissioners, community leaders, secretaries- everyone. ‘Sharing one’s love through service’..
