This takes me back! Butter Cut-Out Cookies are #RecipeOfTheDay and I’d make them every year for my children’s birthdays in the appropriate numeral, stopping when they reached double figures, with a special one-off return when they were 21. (They were 6 and 4 when this picture was taken.) Obviously, you can use any cookie cutter you want: you don’t have to do numbers!

I purchased How to be a Domestic Goddess as a wedding gift for myself, and earmarked this exact page. I made these birthday biscuits for each of my three children (un-iced for 1, full sugary glory for all subsequent birthdays) and now it simply wouldn’t be a birthday without them now. Just a few months ago I posted a pic of the number 16s made for my eldest. Thank you for giving us a much-loved family tradition.

I love these cookies. They’ve have been my go to’s for parties, school fairs, fund raising etc. since you published the book @nigellalawson I’ve made thousands - literally. I’m always asked what the recipe is and they’re the only biscuits my son will eat. Kids are now 22&20 but I make 600 every Christmas for church/local schools event. Thank you.

I loved seeing this picture on my feed. I found your recipe online for these when it was my sons first birthday, and made them for his party. I’ve made them for both my sons birthdays ever since and they now help me decorate. My eldest will be 4 next month and I look forward to making these with him again. Thank you for helping to make memories x

I remember watching you make this recipe on your tv series (let’s not count back the years) It became a family institution when you mentioned that it was very forgiving dough in term of kids rollling out, rolling out and rollling out again. We make kiss biscuits with the recipe. Most recently my 9yo made her first batch all by herself ❤️

Takes me back too! My daughter was a toddler when I bought Domestic Goddess and now she's baking herself - she even applied for Junior Bake Off this year and had a telephone interview. It's still my go-to baking book and the cricket team in our village and colleagues at work have benefitted hugely by Goddess bakes over the years!

Reminds of the Nigella Bites ( my fave TV series of all time) episode where you made cupcakes for your daughters birthday. I remember the part where you had a box of gel colours that turned the icing this pale violet colour and you topped it all with gild beads and ball bearings.
