In the first image, an 18-year-old silverback male named Kareba is clearly conveying his disapproval. In the second, it’s curiosity that can be understood in the face of 11-year-old Ubwuzu. This is the power that social mammals, capable of conveying complex emotions wield in just a look, whether it’s fear, sorrow, happiness, or anger.
