Photo by Lucas Foglia @lucasfogliaphoto | A teenage boy teaches a songbird, captured in the rainforest in Guyana, to sing on command. Once trained, he will sell the bird in nearby Suriname, where songbird competitions are ubiquitous.

True!! It is our culture. Everywhere in Guyana u will c men with these birds. The r different birds that sing sweetly like the Fire Red, Blue Back, Mountain Kanary, Tower Towa, etc. Guyanese men love these birds like u love your dogs/ cats

Teach nature to do what comes naturally?...there must be a better way to make money than caging and training....I don't know about you but the birds in my garden do just fine on their own

Yep, that is Suriname, unfortunately, no respect for nature, not even for human life. And don't even try to explain or educate ppl. A sad place.

A songbird captured in the rainforest. My heart just broke for that poor bird that was ripped out of its environment. The evil that humans are.

People on here worried about a bird...meanwhile somewhere in the US, children are in cages thanks to the President and the Republican Party. ?

Devastatingly sad. What if the boy were caged, speaking only on command, for sale at the market?
