Wesselmann created several monumental paintings, now known as “standing still lifes” between 1967 and 1981. Each work is comprised of numerous shaped canvases that depict individual still life objects. Measuring nearly three meters tall and over eight meters wide, "Still Life #60" includes a book of matches, sunglasses, nail polish, lipstick, a necklace, and a ring, carefully arranged as if on a bedside table. Implying a woman’s presence, the objects serve as inanimate surrogates for the body.
