Though he is widely known as a war photographer, this title haunts him. He has never been content with the impact made by the images he has produced. He feels that they have an insufficient role in ending the suffering of the people they depict. For McCullin, photography is all about feeling. 'If you can't feel what you're looking at, then you're never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures.'
