Popular amphetamines, such as Adderall or Vyvanse, could increase the risk of developing psychosis in young people, according to new research from Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital. These medications are common when treating ADHD in teens and young adults.⁣

The research also found that those who take methylphenidates, such as Ritalin or Concerta, were actually less likely to develop some sort of psychosis.⁣

Although the risk of developing psychosis is low, the data come at a time when prescription rates and diagnoses of ADHD are on the rise. It's not clear whether more children have ADHD or more are being diagnosed.⁣
