Three times a day, they’re at the borehole to fetch water. Before the new pump was installed, they only had an open and slippery borehole. Their mother, Teddy, was too afraid to send them there on their own, fearing her children would fall down the hole. When I asked Teddy if she believes they will ever have water straight to their plot, she said, “I’ve never imagined having a borehole or water on my plot. We could never afford it.
