Togakushi Shrine—a Sacred Place of Mountain Faith
(Nagano City)

Togakushi Shrine can be found at the base of Mt. Togakushi.

During the Heian Period, many mountain ascetics gathered here. Among Mts. Hiei and Koya, Mt. Togakushi was considered one of the most thriving areas for ascetic training. 

Even today, a sacred air hangs about this place, and many people visit it as a center of mountain faith.

rchong89 I was there towards the end of last month. Since the buses don't run there during the winter you'd either have to drive to the base of the upper Togakushi Shrine and hike the reminder 1.4km up a gentle slope ( but covered in unshoveled snow) or take the bus to the middle Togakushi Shrine and hike up 3.1km instead
